Mr. Takayama of STOP LIGHT is a legendary figure and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that he single-handedly created the “Shibu-Kaji” style. After showcasing his skills at brands such as BACK DROP and PROPELLER, he took American styles that were recognized throughout the world and used them as a foundation to create a unique Japanese style. Takayama began making silver jewelry in 1999, and his iconic one-eyed skull has a meaning of “narrowing down your focus and living your life”.
“Clothes are fun, but silver jewelry will be preserved for a long time ahead and they are easier to give out messages, which in turn provides me with power. That’s the real thrill in it,” he says. Today his pieces are popular not only in Japan, but throughout the world. The biggest reason why they have achieved such popularity is because they are all handmade by Takayama himself. And it’s his stubborn stance that helps produce such great pieces.
