New York is undoubtedly the epicenter of the world’s trends. The latest trends are constantly being produced in the city, but what makes New York so charming is its continued respect for the past. This month, we will be introducing a wonderful vintage mall located in the heart of New York.
Show Place Antique Center is a four-story mall that can be found in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
More than 250 antique shops line the walls on all four floors, with vendors offering a wide selection vintage furniture, art, miscellaneous goods, accessories and clothing of various genres and price ranges.
With so many shops, you’ll need plenty of time to look through each one, and fans of antique goods will appreciate the wide variety of products that you can find here.
Of the many shops, our editorial department selected their three most anticipated shops to introduce to you today.
First up is “The Antique Toy Shop.”
Owned by a vintage toy collector, you can find countless toys dating back to 1880 to the 1970s displayed inside the store.
Items include mini American cars made of tin, retro Mickey Mouse toys and figures of old American cartoon characters.
Many of the items are made with traditional materials like tin and wood, and among them are extremely rare items that you cannot see everyday.
The car above with the “98” label was made by Japanese toy company Yonezawa during the 1950s. Apparently, the owner of the store is a huge fan of Japanese toys and animation.
Next up is “Waves L.L.C.” a vintage audio shop.
The store carries a wide selection of gramophones, radios, record players and microphones from the 1940s and 1950s.
Of course, all of the items that are displayed in the store can still be operated.
With its voluminous and classic design this vintage radio would make the perfect accessory, and is priced at around $300.
It’s truly fascinating to see what kind of sounds can be produced from audio devices that were created more than half a century ago.
Finally, we’ll make our way up to the furniture section on the 4th floor of the mall.
On this floor, different buyers have sections set up by area, where you can find a wide collection of Mid-Century furniture from around the world.
During our visit, a Brazilian Mid-Century design section had been set up in the store.
Focusing on the works of iconic Brazilian designer Sergio Rodrigues, who was active during the 1950s-1960s, a selection of chairs, sofas, desks and lighting are on display.
At the time, the many immigrants who traveled to Brazil brought along their European and African influences, which gradually was incorporated with the styles of local indigenous culture to create new Brazilian Mid-Century designs. Made with natural materials, the distinct style of furniture provides a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
You can also find shops specializing in vintage lingerie, with lingerie hanging from various walls and the ceiling of the booth and antique shops where you can find items such as Asian dolls and paintings. At Show Place Antique Center, each booth offers a glimpse into a completely different world.
Walking around each floor will make you forget about the time, and this mall is definitely a place that can be enjoyed by people who are looking for specific items or for those just looking around.
